Dashing to the Thrift Store for Something to Wear

crossdresser in a white blouse over pink cami and brown skirt with tightsToday was one of those crazy days where nothing seemed to go right, but I was determined to take advantage of any girl time that I could. First, I realized that our company had scheduled a mandatory meeting for 11 AM, so my plan to work from home until lunch time wouldn't work. Second, the super cute outfit that I had planned to wear today had to be scrapped because I didn't have sufficient time ensure that my arms would look great even in half sleeves. And so while today's adventure was extremely rushed, at least you know that I have a cute outfit planned for next week when I dress again. :-)

As I've been fortunate to experience girl time again this month, I've noticed just how much I've fretted about not having anything to wear. I particular, I just can't decide what to wear from the waist down. Most of my skirts are for the summer since that's when I do a majority of my dressing, and I also have lots of denim capris, but women just don't wear capris in cold weather. I have my pink skinny jeans as well that I plan on wearing sometime this winter, but a girl can't be seen wearing the same thing over and over can she?

So, due to my limited time this morning, I decided to make a quick run to the thrift store to see if I could find some fun jeans or new skirts that I could wear in the winter time. After I decided on where to go, I next needed to decide what to wear, which brings me back to my original dilemma that inspired me to go to the thrift store in the first place. I didn't have any issue with what to wear on top since I had recently purchased a long sleeve cotton tee with pretty ruffles down the front from Old Navy. When I first tried this new top on over my bra, I realized that the rounded neck was so deep that I would need to layer it over a camisole, and so I fished through my drawer and found the pink camisole that I purchased at Target over the summer. The pink is not a bright color, and I'm not sure how well it worked with the white Old Navy top, but I had to do something, and I was in a hurry. You can tell from the first picture I posted of my entire outfit that I was having a difficult time keeping the straps of my bra from peeking out beyond the neckline. When I originally wore the top for the first time, I realized that the neck was so wide that it'd be almost impossible to cover up my bra entirely, so by having the camisole underneath as a layer, it at least created enough clutter and straps without drawing too much attention.

crossdressed and driving to the storeSatisfied that the new top would work with the pink cami, I now had to decide what to pair it with below the waist, and I finally decided to wear it with a cotton tie skirt from Old Navy in brown over a pair of my favorite brown opaque tights with matching brown flats. I realized that I was wearing cotton from head to toe, and I felt a little bit odd since cotton is not necessarily a cold weather fabric. You also don't really see anyone wearing opaque tights beneath a cotton skirt either, but this was the best I had for the moment. I had wanted to wear a half slip beneath the skirt as well since cotton on opaque tights produces a bit of friction, but my half slip was just a bit too long to completely hid beneath my skirt. Furthermore, I was hopeful that I'd be able to solve my ultimate dilemma by finding something fun at the thrift store, and so I called my outfit good, touched up my makeup and hair, popped in my favorite hoop earrings, and then grabbed my purse with all of the essentials and dashed for the front door.

Last week I took a few pictures from the dashboard of my car, but I thought that my face looked too chubby, and so I didn't post them. I did send some pics to my girl friend, Aimee, and she said I looked great, but I think she was talking more along the lines of "you still look so passable" instead of "you don't look chubby." Anyway, I set my camera on top of my dashboard again this morning and snapped a few pictures as I carefully drove. I thought the pictures turned out better today than last week, and so I will post one of them here. The pic also gives you a close-up of my pink pastel camisole peaking through the scoop neck of my white top. It looks as if I was also able to keep the top up high enough on my shoulders to sufficiently cover the straps of my camisole and bra.
