Running an Errand at
Walmart Dressed as a Working Woman
outing was one of those where I was super pressed for time, but I still
had about an hour's window to get ready and venture out for a quick
outing as a girl, and so I decided to dash to Walmart to purchase more
makeup remover wipes by Neutrogena. As I explained in yesterday's diary
entry, I often have to de-girl myself in the front seat of my car, and
without the aid of a bathroom sink, I have to rely on the Neutrogena
makeup remover wipes to clear the makeup entirely from my face,
especially the areas around my eyes where my eyeliner and mascara are
applied. And so this morning, I saw a window from about 8:30 AM to 9:30
AM and decided to dress up like a working woman and dash into Walmart
for a quick purchase of makeup remover.
As for my outfit, I pictured a woman wearing tights to work on a chilly
morning, and after buying some new Vera Wang tights at Kohl's several
weeks ago, I still hadn't had the opportunity to wear them out, and so I
decided to build my outfit around the black, opaque tights. These
tights are also commonly worn by women when the weather gets chilly
assuming they even choose to wear tights or leg wear at all.
Besides the tights, I also had a black, knit sweater with a fun story
behind it, and so I've been waiting to wear this top for awhile. As you
likely know, I work in the IT industry, and my company has people on the
road quite a bit, and we do various trade shows around the country, and
so the company is always ordering tops with the company logo. When they
order the tops, they get them for everyone in the company and not just
the people who travel, and so several times a year, we get outfitted
with new company gear, and they have tops made for both women and men.
Well, when the HR team orders the clothing, they'll often have samples
sent out first so they can evaluate them before placing the bulk order,
and so one morning we got a company-wide email that said there were a
number of unmarked samples in the kitchen that had piled up over the
years, and anyone
welcome to come and take them as long as they promised to wear them.
Since, these samples didn't have the company logo on it, I thought I'd
go to the kitchen to see if there was anything in a women's cut that I
could have. Because there are very few women at my company, by the time
I read the email and made it to the kitchen, there was one women's top
left, and it was the black, knit sweater that I wore today. The
branf of the top was called Port Authority, and I've had the sweater for
about a year now and have just been waiting for the perfect time to wear
it, so today was that day.
I thought it would be fun to match the black sweater with the black
tights, and in between the two, I decided to wear a super cute jersey
skirt with black and white diagonal stripes. Part of me had to sigh that
I couldn't put a fun outfit like this together and actually wear it to
work, but at least I could wear it for an hour or so posing as a working
woman. Along with the top, skirt, and tights, I thought my black ballet
flats would be the perfect compliment to complete the outfit.
I was way excited doing my makeup, and when it came time to do my hair,
I decided to wear it long and just let if flow down along my shoulders.
I felt so pretty this morning as I stood in front of the full length
mirror brushing out my blonde hair until I felt it looked just perfect.
I didn't have enough time this morning to take any video, and so I
grabbed my purse and my camera and headed for Walmart around 8:30 AM
posing as a woman running in for a quick makeup purchase prior to work.
